USD Carbon Free Carlos Bernal
The Carbon Free is aptly named, it’s based on the USD Carbon skate… but the shell is made with a plastic composite (instead of Carbon Fibre) which some riders prefer for it’s shock absorbing qualities and solid landings.
The skin on the boot pays tribute to a classic 90’s trainer style and the lining is heat-mouldable (90C in an oven for 10 minutes). Double velcro straps complete the trainer vibes and the slick black seat-belt style top strap is a thing of beauty and a USD first. The removable insole act as a shock absorber; providing a thick foam heel section.
The Carbon Free uses the USD Carbon soul kits, as expected. Nice and wide, lightweight and strong with a minimalistic groove.
We also noticed a layer of foam added between the soul-plate and the bottom of the boot. A dampener like this is always a welcome addition. Stopping the hard plastic of the soul directly touching the bottom of the boot it a satisfying ‘thump’ to a perfect landing.
